LEWISTON — The Good Food Council of Lewiston-Auburn recently announced a the continuation of Katie Boss of Auburn as chairwoman and seven new members in January, bringing its 2019 ranks to 14.
A public health professional at Healthy Androscoggin, Boss will start her second year of service with GFCLA as chairwoman.
The incoming seven members represent a wide range of local food system stakeholders, including a fourth-generation family farm that spans three townships, a healthcare-based hunger screening program, a state-wide healthy food education program, a volunteer gleaning initiative, an immigrant and refugee integration and farming support organization, an institutional food service department, and a post-secondary environmental education and research department. In addition, they bring connections to numerous personal and professional networks.
New members are Francis Eanes, Bates College Environmental Studies; Alyssa Adkins, University of Maine Cooperative Extension Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program; Jeff Newell, Androscoggin Gleaners and University of Maine Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Program; David Bell, Bell Farms; Julia Bergquist, Family Medicine Residency at Central Maine Health Care; Mohamed Dekow, Sustainable Livelihoods Relief Organization; Rachel Jalbert, Bates College catering.
The GFCLA was formed in the summer of 2012 to create and support improvements to the food system of the Lewiston- Auburn community. It does this by fostering coordination between sectors in the food system, educating the public and serving as a forum for discussing issues, evaluating and influencing policy, and supporting programs that meet local food needs.
