State will begin processing Maine tax returns Jan. 28

AUGUSTA – Maine Revenue Services recently announced that it expects to begin processing most Maine income tax returns on Jan. 28, the same date on which the Internal Revenue Service has announced the federal tax filing season will begin.

The state of Maine’s FastFile (I-File) application, MRS’ free filing service for Maine taxpayers, will be available in early February. MRS expects to begin issuing refunds in mid-February.
The filing deadline to submit 2018 Maine individual income tax returns is Wednesday, April 17.
Additionally, MRS warns taxpayers, as the new tax season begins, to be wary of fraudsters who may target taxpayers by email, by phone, and online.

Timely notification assists MRS in preventing the processing of fraudulently filed tax returns. Income tax forms are available on the MRS website at: www.maine.gov/revenue/forms.
All downloadable forms posted on the MRS website are suitable for printing and filing with the state of Maine.
