Leeds Historical Society to host ‘What IS that?’ guessing game March 26

LEEDS – The audience will get to particate in the mystery when the Leeds Historical Society, along with Lew Alessio, presents an afternoon of “What in tarnation IS that?” The program is 2-4 p.m., Sunday, March 26, downstairs in the Community Room at the Leeds Town Office, 8 Community Drive, Leeds Center.

Participants can bring items that old-timers would easily recognize, but later generations may not, to the March 26 event.

Alessio, a local “collector of ephemera and the tools that reflect the ingenuity of New England inventors” will help the audience guess what the items are, for instance, whether it would have belonged in the house or the barn, or whether it came from the local shoe shop or cider mill, according to a news release from the historical society. Born and raised in New York City, Alessio is the founder of the Maine Acting Company. He has an antiques business and has lived in Greene for 44 years.

The program is open to the public, and those attending are encouraged by the historical society to bring unusual or unknown items. Refreshments will be served.
