OXFORD HILLS – Four libraries in the Oxford Hills are collaborating on a program, “52 Weeks of Giving,” that will encourage community involvement and helping others both on a local and international scale.
Libraries participating in the program, which begins April 1, are Hamlin Memorial Library of South Paris, the Harrison Village Library, the Norway Memorial Library, and the Paris Public Library. The libraries will rotate through hosting or promoting weekly activities or ideas for the program, according to a news release from the group.
Hamlin Library will feature an activity or program the first week of each month, Paris Public Library will host the second week of each month, Harrison Village Library will host the third week of each month and Norway Memorial Library will host the fourth week of each month. The program will run for 52 weeks, until April 1, 2018, and are open to people of all ages. Families are encouraged to attend and participate. There are no restrictions on which library participants can attend events at.
Some of the scheduled programs include volunteering at community gardens, creating and posting random notes of kindness in public places, cleaning up local hiking trails, raising money for Responsible Pet Care in Norway, writing welcoming letters to refugee families in Maine and sending care packages to soldiers overseas.
The libraries also welcome suggestions for programs and collaboration from community organizations.
The libraries will keep participants updated with weekly Facebook posts that highlight that week’s activity, according to the release. For more information, contact one of the participating libraries.
