FARMINGTON — Helen Ann Hughes, 73, of Farmington, died Saturday, Feb. 25, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. She was born April 12, 1943, in Steep Falls, the daughter of Franklin Swinington and Hattie D. (Ward) Swinington. Helen was a graduate of Pennell High School in Gray.
On October 7, 1983, she married Gerald L. Hughes; he passed away Feb. 26, 2015. She devoted her time to her family and her home, dedicating her life to the Lord. She was a member of the First Apostolic Church in Wilton. She was also a former member of The Note-Ables Chorus in Bangor. She enjoyed knitting and coloring; she loved poetry, having had a few of her poems published.
She is survived by a daughter, April Kerr, and her husband Jeffrey of Farmington; three grandchildren — Franklin Steele and his wife Melissa of Bethel, Heather Steele of Vienna, Georgia, and Theodore Gagnon of Lewiston; eight great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Cora Swinington, of Gray, and her beloved cat “Tiffany.” She was predeceased by two brothers, Roger and Harold Swinington.
