RANGELEY — The 31st lighting of The Giving Tree of Rangeley will be 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the entrance to Town Park.
The annual event opens the Christmas season in Rangeley, and there will be live music, singing and special guests, including Santa Claus.
Those attended are urged to dress warm, and bring the children, your singing voice, and a flashlight. The ceremony will be followed by a reception with hot cocoa and cake at the Congregational Church Barn on High Street with the angel, Santa and his elf.
The Giving Tree of Rangeley is an all-volunteer community-based donation organization that helps families in the area with warm clothing and boots for their children. Those who would like to assist local families may take a tag with specifi items of need from trees at Skowhegan and the Franklin Savings Banks. The item may be bought and returned unwrapped with the tag to a box at Skowhegan Savings bank during business hours, or mailed to The Giving Tree Rangele, P.O. Box 222, Rangeley ME 04970-0222 by Dec. 4. Also being collected are $30 give cards for local seniors and families, with the same return places and deadline.

The Giving Tree of Rangeley children’s book, “The Angel in Rangeley….The Giving Tree Story,” is also for sale for $7 at Ecopelagicon on Pond Street or privately by contacting Glidden, with proceeds also going to the program. The story is based on the events of a local family 31 years ago, which led to the creation of The Giving Tree of Rangeley.
