LEWISTON — Grammy Award-winning concert pianist Michael Lewin will be featured in the fourth program of the Gendron Franco Center’s 2016-17 Piano Series on Friday, March 10.
The performance will be at 7 p.m. at the Dolard and Priscilla Franco Center, 46 Cedar St. Doors open for a pre-concert reception at 6 p.m. Lewin will perform works by Beethoven, Cuban composer Ernesto Lecouna, Brazilian composers Ernesto Nazareth and Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Franz Liszt.
Lewin won a Grammy Award in 2014 as the featured artist on the Billboard No. 1 New Age album, “Winds of Samsara” and was nominated for a Grammy for his bird-themed collection, “If I Were a Bird.”
Boston Herald music critic Keith Powers has written of Lewin, “Be advised not to miss your next chance to hear him.” Lewin studied at the Juilliard School, and has won the William Kapell International Competition, the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition and the American Pianists Association Award. He has performed in more than 30 countries, with chamber ensembles and as soloist with symphony orchestras, as well as in solo recitals, and his tours have taken him to Moscow’s Great Hall, Taipei’s National Concert Hall, the Opera House of Cairo, the Athens Megaron and London’s Wigmore Hall, among others. Orchestral engagements have included the Netherlands Philharmonic, the State Symphony of Greece, the China National Radio and Film Orchestra, the Boston Pops and the Indianapolis Symphony. In October 2006, Lewin appeared at the Franco Center as soloist with the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra.
His discography includes two recent Debussy albums for Sono Luminus, “Starry Night” and “Beau Soir.” He also published on Sono Luminus “Piano Phantoms,” music inspired by the spirit world.
Lewin also teaches at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee and is artistic director of the Boston Conservatory Piano Masters Series.
Admission to the March 10 performance is is $15; $10 for seniors. Students are admitted for free. The Franco Center is handicap accessible. Parking is included in the price of the ticket.
