AUGUSTA — The University of Maine at Augusta will hold various events to honor and thank veterans for their service at its Augusta and Bangor campuses during the week of Nov. 5.
* Monday, Nov. 5, noon, UMA Veterans Academic Center – Augusta campus — Veterans will be recognized for their service at the Veterans Academic Center, followed by cake, refreshments, and brief remarks from our veterans. Veterans can wear or bring in military memorabilia showing their service (hats, old uniforms, special medals/ribbons).
* Tuesday, Nov. 6, 6 to 7:30 p.m., UMA Eastport Hall, Room 135 – Bangor campus — A panel discussion on “Business Resources for Veterans” for veterans, showcasing the business resources available to veterans and active duty service members to help start and grow a business. Resources include lending institutions, Veterans Affairs, Small Business Administration, Boots 2 Roots, New Ventures and Maine SBDC. Hosted by Maine SBDC and UMA Student Veteran Association.
* Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2 noon to 1:30 p.m., UMA Jewett Hall auditorium – Augusta campus — A panel discussion on “Accessing VA Benefits: What you need to know.” This panel discussion with VA subject matter experts is free and open to the public. Hosted by the Maine State Forum and UMA Office of Military & Veteran Services.
* Thursday, Nov. 8, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., UMA Eastport Hall, Huskins Lounge – Bangor campus — Veterans will be recognized for their service, followed by cake, refreshments and brief remarks from Dean Robert Roper. Veterans can wear or bring in military memorabilia showing their service (hats, old uniforms, special medals/ribbons).
* Friday, Nov. 16, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Michael Klahr Center, UMA Augusta campus — A free seminar “Maine in WWI” for teachers, students, historians, and life-long learners, who will examine Maine’s participation and legacy in WWI, and a celebration of the centennial of the end of the war.
The Augusta campus is at 46 University Drive, and the Bangor campus is at 1 University Drive.
