PAID POLITICAL AD: All I Want for My Birthday

November 6th is my birthday, but it’s also a special day for another reason. It’s Election Day, and my grandson, Josh Morris, is a candidate for the state house for the towns of Leeds, Livermore and Turner. I hope you will all join me in supporting him at the polls.

As you know, I am lifelong resident of the town of Turner. I ran a general store, House’s Market, and my father, Maynard House, ran it before me. Running this store earned my father the title, “Mayor of North Turner.” When he retired, I became the mayor.
Public service is something that has always been important to our family. I served on the school board in the 1970s and as a selectman from 2003-2013. When I was unsuccessful for another term in 2013, I didn’t cry or lash out at anyone, I thanked the people for giving me an opportunity to serve and went on with my life. Those are the values that were instilled in me and we have instilled those values in Josh, character is important in public service.
I believe that Josh best represents the values that these communities hold dear. He understands the importance of our 2nd amendment, that’s why I am proud to say that he has been endorsed by the National Rifle Association and earned a grade of A+ from the Sportsmen’s Alliance of Maine. He is the only candidate running who will stand with 57 percent of the people in Leeds, Livermore, and Turner against ranked choice voting, understanding that it should be “one person, one vote.”
Let’s not forget that it was just eight years ago that we owed the hospitals $750 million dollars, we owed state retirement $4.3 billion dollars, and there was high unemployment. Now we have paid back the hospitals, we are finally paying back the state retirement system, and we have record low unemployment.
Do we really want to go back to where we were eight years ago? Josh is committed to keeping Maine moving in a positive direction.
Josh represents the future of the great state of Maine, a state our family has called home for over 200 years.
He understands that we need a vibrant economy that will be accomplished through a trained workforce. He is committed to increasing vocational training so Maine can meet the challenges of the 21st century.
My family and this community have meant a lot to me in my life. I have seen the way they have both grown and changed over the years. I’d like to think I have played a part in the shaping of both.
I know Josh is committed to continuing that, and that’s why he hopes to serve in Augusta. On my birthday, I can think of no greater gift than to see my grandson, Josh Morris, elected state representative.
