LEWISTON — Each year Community Credit Union joins with with many other credit unions throughout Maine to help end hunger by building awareness and raising funds through the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger. Since the campaign was established in 1990, Maine’s credit unions have raised and distributed more than $7.2 million to local food pantries, shelters and organizations.
In 2016 credit unions raised more than $674,193, which will be distributed to local Maine organizations.
At the end of each year, the money raised by each individual participating credit union is given back to that credit union to be distributed to hunger organizations in its community.
In 2016, Community Credit Union donated in excess of $5,000 to the Turner Food Pantry, Trinity Jubilee Center, Leeds Community Church Pantry, SeniorsPlus Meals on Wheels Program, St. Mary’s Nutrition Center, as well as Carrie Ricker Elementary, Washburn Elementary and Longley Elementary through Good Shepherd Food Bank.
