LEWISTON — The fall Drug Take Back, hosted by law enforcement agencies across the state, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday Oct. 27.
In Androscoggin County, agencies participating include the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, and police departments from Auburn, Lewiston, Lisbon, Livermore Falls, Mechanic Falls and Sabbatus, in partnership with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Healthy Androscoggin and AARP.
They will give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. There are also drop-off sites in Poland and Turner.
In addition, the agencies have partnered with AARP to also offer a document and paper shredding event at the Lewiston High School site only. Both of the services are free of charge.
The Drug Take Back Program is a national initiative that was formed through the federal Drug Enforcement Agency. Locally, Healthy Androscoggin continues to partner with local law enforcement in this very worthwhile cause. It has been a highly successful national program. It is especially successful in Maine, law enforcement officials said. When the Maine Sheriffs’ Association learned that the feds were discontinuing the program, it stepped up and decided to continue it.

Auburn: Bedard Pharmacy 359 Minot Ave.;
Lewiston: Lewiston High School, 156 East Ave.;
Lisbon: Lisbon Police Department 300 Lisbon St.;
Livermore Falls: Livermore Falls Police Department, 2 Main St.;
Mechanic Falls: Mechanic Falls Police Department 108 Lewiston St.;
Poland: Poland Town Office complex lot, 1231 Maine St.;
Sabattus: Sabattus Police Department, 190 Middle Road;
Turner: Turner Fire/Rescue Station, 19 General Turner Hill Road.
