Lewiston police warn of phony firefighter fundraising scam

LEWISTON — What appears to be a local phone fundraising drive for firefighters is a scam, Police Chief Brian Stockdale said.

Stockdale confirmed the calls residents are receiving soliciting money for local firefighters have nothing to do with the Lewiston Fire Department, Lewiston’s Firefighters Local 785 or the Auburn Fire Department.
He said the calls are also not from the Maine State Federation of Firefighters.
Stockdale urged residents to be cautious when taking such fundraising calls.
