NORWAY — The Drive Out Cancer golf tournament raised more than $10,000 for the Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine recently.
Golf tournament Chairwoman Freda Truman, of the Norway Country Club Ladies Association, presented a check for $10,199 to resource center representatives. The other co-chairwoman is June Harkins.
Over the past five years, the association has raised more than $38,000 for the center through the tournament.
Many local businesses and individuals helped raise the money, either being a tournament sponsor, participating in the 18 hole golf scramble played at Norway Country Club or by buying items donated items on the silent auction or raffle table.
Donations for the tournament come from businesses and individuals throughout western Maine, from Poland, Naples and Bridgton, to Norway and South Paris, to Bethel and many towns in between.
The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine is at 199 Main St, Norway in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building.
