BRIDGTON — Artist Will Harney has joined the group of more than 40 artists who exhibit work at Gallery 302, 112 Main St.
As a kid, Harney was always interested in drawing and once painted an entire dinosaur mural in the add-on room in his family’s home in Danvers, Mass., a news release from the gallery said.
He studied at Rhode Island School of Design, majoring in illustration and graphic design practices, among some great friends and teachers.
In 2001, he graduated and was recognized with an award for Aesthetic Excellence & Conceptual Clarity. During his schooling, he also worked on a few schoolroom language learning books with speech and language pathologist Marilyn Toomey of Circuit Publications in Marblehead, Mass.
In 2007, Harney took a sole trip to Paris to paint, take photographs and draw pictures of the architecture in the city. In 2008, after being inspired by a lunch meeting with children’s’ book author and illustrator Ed Emberley, Harney decided to rewrite, illustrate and publish a classic Taoist-based folktale, “The Stonecutter.” The book is available in more than a dozen galleries and bookstores in New England, and also online via the subscription-based family home reading service FarFaria.
Harney’s family has a home in Fryeburg, and he says he enjoys this area of Maine, which has been an inspiration to him for landscape painting.
