Now that the school year is well underway, parents and teachers alike are doing everything they can to ensure our children are successful with all of their projects, tests and quizzes. While students and their mentors will do everything to make it unit-by-unit and year-by-year, we need leaders who have the foresight to not only create great K-12 programs, but also present students with great opportunities right through their young adult lives.
As a teacher at Maranacook Community Schools, I am strongly urging my Maranacook friends in Senate District 14 to vote for Matt Stone for state Senate. On the campaign trail, Matt and I have had several opportunities to speak about education and the fantastic school districts within Senate District 14. Matt is a true believer in educational opportunities that include elementary and middle schools with more rigor and less standardized testing, greater access to vocational education, a more approachable University of Maine system, and replicating the successes at our amazing community colleges.
Matt Stone is a young and dynamic leader who recognizes Maine’s fantastic teachers and how they need more freedom and time to teach and collaborate — and focus much less on clunky, standardized tests and one-size-fits-all initiatives from the state and federal governments.
My classroom and our schools need more student-first allies. I hope my friends at the Maranacook, Winthrop, Gardiner, Hall-Dale and Monmouth school districts vote Matt Stone for state Senate!
