AUBURN – Members of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Lunch Club unanimously approved the nomination of immediate past president, Monica Millhime, for the office of district governor serving Maine and Quebec Club during 2021-2022.
The announcement was made during a fellowship meeting held on Thursday, September 6. The Club’s Board of Directors approved a resolution supporting the nomination Aug. 7.
Shawn Wright, a member of the District Nominating Committee, abstained. The recommendation to nominate Millhime for district governor was presented to the club by past president and District Governor Sylvia Plourde.
Millhime has been a Rotarian since 1994 and is a Paul Harris Fellow. She served as the president of the L-A Rotary Club for the year 2017-2018. In July, she was awarded the 2018 Governor’s Certificate of Recognition for her efforts.
Under Millhime’s leadership, membership grew by 25% while the club focused on serving children and students, establishing community and international connections. Partnerships were established or strengthened with local community groups, including Washburn School, Schooner Estates, the American Red Cross, the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine, Book Reach Literacy, Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, and local veterans’ groups.
The club awarded grants to several nonprofits and $6,000 in community scholarships. Millhime is an Employment and Training Business Specialist for Western Maine Community Action, covering five counties from her base at the Lewiston CareerCenter, where she develops and coordinates employer-driven projects with Work Ready and other on-the-job training programs. She resides in Durham with her husband, Jim.
