HALLOWELL — Festival coordinators for Hallowell’s second annual Maine Luthiers Exhibition and Music Showcase have announced a diverse lineup of musicians and stringed instrument makers representing a broad cross section of the state.
“We have musicians coming from as far away as Bangor, Portland, and even Monhegan Island, and also from Massachusetts and New Hampshire, to perform at this year’s music showcase,” said festival ,anager Nate Rudy, who is also Hallowell’s city manager. “We’re going to have a great time in Hallowell as we recognize and celebrate Maine Craft Weekend.”
The music festival recognizing Maine’s stringed instrument making and performing music culture will be held Friday through Sunday, Oct. 12-14, during Maine craft weekend.
The festival began last year and has quickly grown from a few intimate performances to a weekend-long schedule of live music, craft talks, instrument raffles, a stringed instrument exhibition at the Harlow Gallery in downtown Hallowell, a collaboration with the Maine Craft Association featuring a second exhibition at the Center for Maine Craft at the West Gardiner Travel Plaza, and keynote speaker Ned Steinberger, a recognized innovator and leader in stringed instrument design and manufacture, who is also a Maine resident.
The weekend features exhibitions of Maine-made acoustic and electric guitars, violins, and other stringed instruments, and performances by musicians playing these instruments on-stage and at the gallery exhibitions. The festival is funded in part by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
