CANTON — The Canton Historical Society will host a talk on “Building and Funding your Community Group” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in its building at 25 Turner St.
The speaker will be Christopher Schario, executive/artistic director of The Public Theatre in Lewiston.
Schario’s talk will draw from his many personal successes and will be of particular interest to members of community groups, the historical society said.
On the topic of fundraising, he will discuss what works and what doesn’t; how to obtain personal gifts, corporate foundation sponsorships and grants; and advice on holding events, auctions and raffles. He will also provide information on connecting your organization’s mission to the needs of the community by designing a program that is practical, attractive and draws an audience.
Additionally, Schario will discuss developing a representative board based on your organization’s demographics, social and economic makeup, and connections to wealth; filling roles such as educational liaison, legal advisor, etc.; and reaching beyond the board/staff’s friends and family.
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served; doors will open at 6 p.m.
