WATERVILLE — Author and international public speaker Carol Kent will speak at the 19th annual Central Maine Ladies Retreat at 9 a.m. on Sept. 29 at Kennebec Valley Baptist Church, 91 Marston Road.
Kent is the president of Speak Up Speaker Services, a Christian speakers bureau committed to helping Christians develop their speaking, writing and leadership skills. She and her husband, Gene, founded the nonprofit organization Speak Up for Hope, which benefits inmates and their families. This ministry began when their only son was sentenced at a young age to life in prison for murder without the possibility of parole.
Known for being humorous and inspiring, Kent is a former radio show co-host and her messages have been broadcast on “Focus on the Family.” She has spoken internationally in South Africa, Germany, Bulgaria, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Guatemala, Mexico and Canada. She regularly appears on a wide variety of nationally syndicated radio and television broadcasts.
Kent has written 10 books and was co-author and general editor of five others. Her articles have been published in many magazines.
The retreat has four sessions. Session one at the retreat is “Living in A New Kind of Normal” and includes a six-minute minute summary produced by the Billy Graham Association. It depicts Bible-based choices the Kents had to make “when life as we once dreamed it would be thrusts us into a new normal,” Kent said.
Session two is “Developing Spiritual Authenticity,” which focuses on practicing Biblical principles for building honesty and integrity into relationships with God and each other. Instead of hiding in secrets, participantes will challenged to be actively involved in gaining spiritual strength, focusing on integrity of heart and appropriate vulnerability with each other.
Session three is “Turning Fear into Faith,” which includes discussion of the top 10 fears that women face in the changing world and how fear is triggered and how it can be defeated with biblical principles.
Session four is “Becoming a Woman of Influence,” which will discuss seven ways Jesus impacted his disciples that can teach those in the modern world how to pass truth on to the next generation and find hope in their own “new kinds of normal.”
