LISBON — Sunday, Aug. 26, the day of Vaughn and Lori Simard’s wedding, was a beautiful day for a wedding — the sun was shining and not a cloud in the sky.
The first person to greet me at Coombs-Mountford American Legion Post 158, with a huge smile, was our counter maid, Terri Hall and that set the tone for the day. I knew then that it was going to be a great day for Vaughn and Lori. I was way early, so I decided to walk around the hall. Upon entering, I saw that the tables were set for a hundred or so people.
The head table was decorated grandly with remembrances of Rene, who they had put to rest last Friday, as well as flowers for the bride and groom. Then I noticed the wedding cake and I had to chuckle, because I knew Lori had something to do with the cake topper. Oh poor Vaughn, does he know what he’s getting into?
Before we knew it everyone was standing and looking toward the front door, and then we heard it the “Wedding March” as the wedding party lined up in the hallway.
Then the crowd gets the first glimpse of the bride, Lori Simard, who looks happy. And happy she should be — this is the second time she and Vaughn are tying the knot. Maid of honor was Genie Chaisson.
Rodney Gagnon, justice of the peace, did the honors, then Lori and Vaughn exchanged rings, kissed, and were presented to the gathering as “Mr. and Mrs. Simard.”
Ron Saindon, post commander, was at least partially responsible for the how good the BBQ chicken was at the wedding meal.
The Doyle Brothers, the DJs, who had a history with the Legion of playing good music, played songs everyone knew and could dance to.
Some others who attended were Terri Hall, Debbie Spencer, Nancy Frost, Diana Pyrdeck, Daisy Pyrdeck, Deziray Pyrdeck, Adjutant James Veilleux, Gail Marcouillier, Mary Call, Velvet Mullen, Janice Jordan, Craig Adamson, Sue Gagnon, Deb Rumery, Linda Craige, Lucy Damond and Karen Saindon, “Farmer” Joe St. Amant, Glenda Wilson, and Dick Closson.
It was a great day, and everyone at the Lisbon American Legion wishes the happy couple luck!
