RANGELEY — The Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsmans Association Junior Guides recently wrapped up another summer of learning about the outdoors.
The program has been in existence for more than 20 years, and some of its activities include hiking, canoeing, fly-fishing and first-aid instruction. The program is for ages 9-12 and has two levels. Everyone starts with the basic program, then those attending for a second year are eligible to attend the advanced program.
The program is free and held on six consecutive Mondays. This summer’s dates were July 9 through Aug. 13. Next year’s dates will be July 8 through Aug. 12.
The program director is Elaine Holcombe, who also runs the basic program, and Sue Lewis, who joined this year as the lead instructor for the advanced program. The program also uses many volunteers for different components.
