LEWISTON – Students enrolled in the Northeast Technical Institute’s manufacturing training program toured local manufacturing plants after they were invited by Elmet’s Technology and Modula in Lewiston and International Paper in Auburn.
The three firms welcomed students and provided attendees with extended tours, followed by question and answer sessions related to employment options.
Students were accompanied by NTI classroom teacher, Scott Moran, and Christina King, Lisa Hartnett and Monica Millhime, from Western Maine Community Action. Students were enrolled in a 280-hour manufacturing technician course offering manufacturing math, workplace skills and communication, introduction to blueprint reading, manufacturing concepts, measurement, introduction to lean manufacturing, safety in the workplace and mechanical fabrication.
The training was supported by a partnership with NTI, Competitive Skills Scholarship Program-Business, and Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act funding through the Lewiston CareerCenter and Western Maine Community Action.
