BRIDGTON — The Lakes Region Substance Abuse Coalition is taking adavtange of September Recover Month to introduce new director, Dani Mooney, to to the community.
Mooney, recently hired as the LRSAC part-time direcotr, has a masters degree in public health and is a certified health education specialist.
Her work experience at the VA Healthcare System, a New Jersey coalition, and working with substance use dis- order patients with complex health and social needs led her to join LRSAC when she moved to North Bridgton last summer with her family.
Mooney has been a dedicated LRSAC volunteer and now turns her energy and talents to serve as LRSAC director, where she will focus on increasing outreach, communications and stakeholder engagement and facilitate funding and program development plans.
“I look forward to meeting many people and supporting the important work of the coalition to achieve community-wide prevention, treatment, policy and enforcement goals for stemming the tide of opioid tragedies,”, said Mooney.
The LRSAC has several events scheduled for September Recovery Month and to welcome Mooney:
* Lakes Region Recovery Center Open House, Sept. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 25 Hospital Drive, Bridgton, for free food, music, fun and a tour of the center (behind the old hospital building).
* Lakes Region Substance Abuse Coalition meeting, 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Bridgton Municipal Complex (downstairs meeting room, entrance off Iredale Street).
* The Magic Lantern Theatre, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, for free showing of “The Anonymous People,” an award-winning documentary about the 23.5 million American’s living in recovery from addiction, followed by a community conversation and call to action (theater is on Depot Street, Bridgton) adult audiences only, all are invited.
In September, LRSAC joins the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration in recognizing Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders and celebrate the people who recover. This year’s theme is Join the Voices for Recovery: Invest in Health, Home, Purpose, and Community.
“We hope everyone in the Lakes Region will be as supportive as the people along the parade route were during Bridgton’s 4th of July parade, where LRSAC ‘Celebrating Recovery’ float won honorable mention and thousands cheered us on and waved as we went by,” said Cathy Finck, LRSAC president. “We couldn’t do what we do, without all the wonderful volunteers and supporters. Thanks to all — what a great community.”
LRSAC works to facilitate community action, create meaningful strategic partnerships, and recognize progress toward achieving community-wide prevention, treatment, policy and en- forcement goals to help stem the tide of opioid tragedies.
