Beacon Hospice volunteer training to be held in Augusta, Fairfield

AUGUSTA –Beacon Hospice Direct Care is holding free training for volunteers beginning Wednesday, Sept. 12.
Training will be in both Augusta and Fairfield.

In Fairfield, training will be at at Lawrence Adult Education, 4 School St. and will run Wednesdays consecutively for seven weeks, beginning Sept. 12.
In Augusta, it will run on consecutive Thursdays, beginning Sept. 13, through Augusta Adult Education at Cony High School, 60 Pierce Drive.
Registration is required for both programs.
Volunteers visit area nursing homes and private residences offering companionship and a supportive presence. Tuck-In Call volunteers check in with families weekly by phone and Indirect Care Volunteers help out in a number of ways, such as sewing veteran blankets, memorial pillows, scrapbooking and office help.
Additionally, there is a veteran-to-veteran volunteer program. Guest speakers for training include a registered nurse case manager, medical social worker, chaplain, bereavement coordinator and veteran volunteers. Hospice volunteering is not about a patient’s demise; it is about their living, Beacon officials said.
