WASHINGTON, D.C. — August is National Immunization Awareness Month, intended to raise awareness about the importance of vaccines across a person’s lifespan, health officials said.

With the start of the school year approaching, parents should check if their child meets their school vaccination requirements, whether they are starting in kindergarten or gearing up for a higher grade.

Information is also available on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s website (www.cdc.gov/vaccines) for more information on state vaccination requirements and to see what is required in specific areas.
