UMA adds spring track and field to offerings

AUGUSTA — The University of Maine at Augusta has added outdoor track and field to its athletic offerings, set to begin in the spring.

UMA students will have the opportunity to compete in track and field events as part of the Yankee Small College Conference, which also includes Unity College, in Unity; Vermont Technical College, in Randolph, Vt.; and Hampshire College, in Amherst, Mass.
“Outdoor track and field is a great fit for us here at UMA,” said Athletic Director Jennifer Laney. “It has something for everyone; from running, jumping, vaulting, and throwing.”
UMA cross country coach Brendan Gilpatrick said, “Track and Field is an amazing addition to UMA and this will only strengthen our cross country program. It will prove to be a great recruiting tool for the university as well as offer current standout track athletes a way to compete and represent UMA in Maine and New England.”
Track and field events joins basketball, golf, bowling and cross country as sports offered at the college.
