NORWAY — Western Maine Health nurses Mariah Kimball and Mary Rhode have recently completed the state Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner Training Program for adult and adolescent survivors, Senior Vice President of Clinical Services Margaret Burns announced.
The SAFE training course consists of 40 hours of class time and one clinical day for practical assessments. Participants receive comprehensive education in: care of patients who have suffered the trauma of sexual assault, the collection of forensic evidence, and how to be a witness in court proceedings. The national training model uses an interdisciplinary community-based approach for the dignified, compassionate and comprehensive care and treatment of the adult and adolescent sexual assault patient.
