AUGUSTA — The Maine Poets Society will meet Saturday, Sept. 15, for a full day of poetry, knowledge sharing and creativity.
The meeting will be 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Episcopal Church, 209 Eastern Ave.
A $10 registration fee is asked to help defray the cost of renting the venue.
All are welcome. Those attending should bring a bag lunch and a poem to share in the open mic portion of the morning session. Coffee, tea, bottled water and cookies will be provided.
In the afternoon, Poet Laureate Linda Aldrich, of Portland, judge of a members-only contest of poems on place or displacement, will share the results of that contest and read the six poems she has chosen for special recognition (three prizes and three honorable mentions).
The Maine Poets Society is an organization of Maine writers actively engaged in creating poetry, who wish to broaden their knowledge of poetry; increase their skills; share their knowledge to help other writers develop and achieve; encourage high standards in writing and judging poetry; and broaden fellow members’ interest, understanding, and appreciation of our rich poetic heritage.
