LEWISTON — University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn College board members have finalized plans for fall course offerings, the celebration of the 20th anniversary of its founding, and to discuss their visions for the future.
More than 20 courses, will be offered, beginning in September. They include Fake News, the Collateral Consequences of Criminal Convictions and Green Dot Bystander Intervention Training; Gardening Potpourri, Advanced Genealogy, Advanced Conversational French, History of New France, and Discover the Local Franco-American Treasures.
Other topics include movies, books, science, immigration, arts and crafts. A complete course list will be published on the website — usm.maine.edu/seniorcollege.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary, there will be gathering, Thursday, Sept. 27, beginning at 1 p.m. at the college, 50 Westminster St, Room 170. There will be a program presented by the Korean Spirit and Culture Project focusing on “King Sejong the Great, Everlasting Light of Korea,” with authentic Korean costumes and a sampling of homemade Korean delicacies. At 3 p.m., the formal anniversary celebrations will begin with a reception and drawings for free memberships, free classes, and a free print by artist Anita Poulin.
