BUCKFIELD — Buckfield American Legion will be hosting an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, to honor Merton Jones for being a Legion member for 60 continuous years.
He has been a very active part of the post, even helping build the post home on Morrill Street. He is past commander of Post 58 and has held many other offices through the years. Jones is the post’s “unofficial” service officer, calling on many sick and recuperating members when possible.
Jones recently returned from a trip to Washington, D.C., with Honor Flight Maine. All veterans are invited to attend the open house, congratulate Merton, share some experiences and memorabilia or photos.
Buckfield American Legion also would like to invite local veterans to join the Post at no cost. The Post will pay the first year’s dues for those interested in becoming a member to learn what the Legion is all about. A magazine and free life insurance are part of the package.
