NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine has announced its August calendar of activities.
The Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival kicks off the month with a “Healing through Music” concert Wednesday, Aug. 1, at McLaughlin Garden and Homestead, 97 Main St., South Paris.
Also beginning this month is “Lunch with Mary” on the second Tuesday of the month. On Tuesday, Aug. 14, from noon to 2 p.m., bring your lunch and meet Executive Director Mary Dempsey. This is an opportunity to see the Center and to learn about the resources the Center offers.
Programs are offered at the center unless otherwise noted and are free to anyone impacted by cancer, survivors and caregivers. Feel free to bring a friend. New visitors are welcome to stop by on drop-in days and to join in one or all programs.
Drop in hours are Tuesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. plus Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers are available to provide comfort items such as port protectors, wigs, hats and pillows or assist visitors with locating various resources. They have many pamphlets and a lending library. The Center is also a place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, chat with a volunteer or take time for yourself by participating in scheduled programs.
Activities such as coloring, knitting and games are available at all times.
A quick overview of August programs includes weekly kayaking wellness on Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. from the public boat launch at Pennesseewassee Park on Route 118 on Norway Lake.
Caregiver Support Groups meet on Mondays and Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Navigation Office, east wing basement at Stephens Memorial Hospital. This group offers a safe place to meet and develop a mutual support system plus learn positive ways to take care of oneself. Call 207-744-6174 to learn more.
Other activities meeting at various times and places include Women’s Cancer Support Group, men’s rally group, yoga warriors, Banding Together to Restore, yoga for wellness, chair yoga, self-Reiki, Stampin’Up craft sessions and fun with crafts.
