AUBURN — The Auburn Community Concert Band is in its 37th season of free summer concerts each Wednesday.
At a recent performance, one of the band’s many sponsors, Clover Health Care in Auburn, handed out free ice cream sandwiches.
The much-appreciated band continues to provide music under the direction of Milt Simon, with its 10 summer events as well as its annual Christmas concert at the Gendron Franco Center in Lewiston.
The theme on a recent night was “Our American Idols.” Some of the selections played by the 50-member group were from The Beatles, Phil Collins, Whitney Houston and Chicago.
The Auburn Community Concert Band puts on the Wednesday evening concerts at the Festival Plaza on Main Street. If the weather does not cooperate, the venue moves to the Gendron Franco Center, 46 Cedar St., Lewiston, where they also hold their Christmas event. The music starts at 7 p.m. after the instrumentalists are set and the national anthem is played.
