Christmas in July at Norlands is July 25

LIVERMORE — Norlands will hold a new “Christmas in July” event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, featuring a blend of historical and contemporary Christmas holiday and winter fun traditions.
Activities will include ornament making, cookie decorating, outdoor holiday-themed games on the front lawn, letter writing to Santa, a holiday trivia game, and a sharing of how the Washburns and their neighbors celebrated Christmas in the 1800s.

Buy a cup of frozen hot chocolate while supplies last. Bring a picnic and enjoy the grounds.
While it may be hard to think about when it is 90 degrees outside and the lawn needs mowing, there are only five more months until Christmas. When decorating forthe annual Christmas at Norlands 19th-century holiday celebration event last December, Norlands staff noticed a lack of suitable ornaments for the tree. We decided to make ornaments throughout the year so that we are more prepared for our next event. However, what started as a simple idea to make more ornaments, has morphed into a summer morning of holiday fun and cheer. Join us!
Visitors can decorate sugar cookies and gingerbread cookies in the historic farmer’s cottage, make holiday ornaments from natural materials such as pine cones and walnuts, play reindeer games on the front lawn – such as “snow ball” tossing, spoon racing, relay sled races, and the game of Graces – and test their knowledge with a holiday trivia game. Start your holiday shopping in Norlands’ gift shop. Bob Bonin of Blue Goose Woods will be onsite selling his handmade wooden snowmen and tree decorations – all locally sourced. A tag sale of slightly used holiday decorations also benefits the Norlands.
