APL Teen Programs for December

AUBURN — Auburn Public Library December teen calendar Friday Movie: “It’s a Wonderful Life,” 3 to 5:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in the Androscoggin Community Room Join us in the Androscoggin Community Room to relax after a long week.

This month, the teens have chosen “It’s a Wonderful Life,” a Christmas classic. And of course, there will be seasonal snacks. Just for teens, ages 12 to 18.

Homework Help for Teens
2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Dec. 6 and 13, in the Teen Space
Homework Help is here. Stop by the Teen Space to get help with time management, schedule planning, goal setting and learn how to be successful with your homework. This program is just for teens in grades 7 to 12 and will include a healthy snack.

Tweens in the Teen Space
12 to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 7 and 14, in the Teen Space
On half-day Wednesdays, sixth-graders are invited to join us in the Teen Space on the second floor. Come by and get a head start on your homework, we’ll have crafts or board games available (just ask us), or you can stop by to simply hang out.

Teen Anime Club
4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, in the Androscoggin Community Room
Get animated over anime. Teens, ages 12 to 18, can drop in to talk about their favorite (or least favorite) manga, watch this week’s selection of anime and try your hand at drawing your own characters. This program was made possible by a generous gift of the P&G Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. Snacks will be provided.

Safe Voices
3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in the Teen Space
Come meet Whitney from Safe Voices. Each month, she will visit the Teen Space to chat about relationships and work on projects. Just for teens, ages 12 to 18.

Snack Chat
3 to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, in the Teen Space
Join us in the Teen Space to enjoy a healthy after-school snack and engage in some enlightening conversation about current events. This program is provided by support from Jim Pittman of Jim’s Auto Sales and is just for teens, ages 12 to 18.

Gaming Hour
4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, and Friday, Dec. 23, in the Androscoggin Community Room
Take a break from studying and stop by the Androscoggin Room on the lower level for video games and snacks. We have XBox and Wii and a small collection of games. Teens are welcome to bring their favorites, but only those rated T and E. Just for teens, ages 12 to 18, this program was made possible by donations from the P&G Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation and the law firm of Norman, Hanson & DeTroy. Teens.

Discoveries in STEM
4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, in the Teen Space
Come join Maisy Cyr of 4H and discover how you really do use science, technology and math outside of the classroom. We may dabble in food science, animal science, simple machinery and technology, or just make some crazy creations. All you need to bring are some big ideas and an open mind. Together, let’s see what we can come up with. This program is just for teens, ages 12 to 18.

Maine Job Corps
10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, in the Conference Room
If you had the opportunity to take part in a life-changing experience that gave you the skills you need to succeed in today’s job market, and it didn’t cost anything, would you be interested? If so, the Job Corps may be for you. Join us when Jill Moody of the Maine Job Corps visits to explain how the program works and who is eligible. For teens and new adults.

DIY Takeover: Cookies in a Jar
4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, in the Teen Space
Join us in the Teen Space on the third Wednesday of each month for a do-it-yourself craft. Some of the things we’ve done include duct tape crafts, mug cakes and sugar scrub, just to name a few. For December, we will be putting together cookies in a jar (a gift for you or for someone else) and making candy cane sleighs. Have ideas for a future DIY? Let us know. This program is just for teens, ages 12 to 18.

SAPARS
3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, in the Teen Space
Visit with Hannah from Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Services. Each month, she will visit to discuss and create awareness of teen issues like healthy relationships, sexual assault, bullying, harassment, substance use/abuse, and internet safety. Just for teens, this event takes place in the Teen Space and may include snacks.

Coming Up in January Our Teen Life Skills series continues in 2017. On Jan. 17, teens should plan to attend our Safety Workshop sponsored by the Auburn Police Department. Learn how to be safe at home and in your community. And on Jan. 24, the APL welcomes Healthy Androscoggin back for the first of a four-part series, “10 Tips for Teens,” a modified cooking program. (Registration is requested for this program.)
