MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Historical Society recently hosted a talk by Capt. Jonathan D. Bratten, command historian for the Maine Army National Guard, on the 103rd Infantry Regiment and the unit’s involvement during the Second World War, particularly on the Pacific front.
Bratten said many members of the regiment who took that train ride in the spring of 1941 to begin training in Camp Blanding, Fla., did not return home until the autumn of 1945. Bratten also disclosed how the regiment’s motto –“To The Last Man” — came about.
