POLAND — Members of the Poland Regional High School Civil Rights Team recently joined with Huddle, a local women’s group, to initiate a program intended to generate community good will.
The groups painted rocks to to distribute throughout the towns of Mechanic Falls, Minot, and Poland (think Easter egg hunt style), for people to find.
Kindness rocks are meant to bring cheer to the finder, a sense of wonder, a momentary feeling of connection. Some of the colorful rocks have simple messages, others are creative representations of bugs or animals, and still others just have a pretty design.
The first rock painting party in the community was held Tuesday, May 8, in the high school courtyard. Others are invited to join in the fun and organize their own painting parties. Organizations and/or families may plan to do group projects or be alert to opportunities to participate in community painting gatherings.
here will be rock painting activities at Camp Connor this summer and a painting session at the Ricker Memorial Library, 1211 Maine St., during its summer reading program.
A painting session for adults is planned to take place at the library, as well. Rock painting is an everyone-can-do-it, easy-to-participate-in activity. Kindness rocks!
