AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library has many activities and programs for teens planned for June, including a vacation celebration the last day of school.
The vacation celebration will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, in the Teen Space, and including ice cream sundaes, board games and details on this year’s summer reading program, “Libraries Rock!”
The summer reading program kickoff will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, and include a performance from Chicks with Sticks steel drummers.
For each book read and for each program attended, teens will have a chance to enter into a weekly drawing. The grand prize this year, a guitar and lessons, will be awarded to the top reader. There will also be a prize awarded for program participation. The program is for those ages 12 to 18.
Teens will have a chance to listen to and learn about music, as well as have opportunities to showcase their musical talents. The program will run for six weeks, ending Aug. 9. Programs will also include a Just Dance competition on the Wii, a DIY music workshop and a Mamma Mia sing along.
There will also be a summer book club again this summer, Pizza & Pages, where teens will read and discuss three books related to the summer theme. Participants get to keep the books.
The teen summer matinee movied, “Jaws,” will be shown at 2 p.m. Friday, June 22, in the Androscoggin Community Room. The movie is rated PG, and is a classic from 1975: A local sheriff, a marine biologist and an old seafarer team up to hunt down a great white shark wreaking havoc on a beach resort. The program is only for those age 12 to 18.
Other regular offerings that will continue in June include Maine Job Corps, Teen Anime Club, the monthly visit from Julia, an advocate from Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services; Gaming Hour; Q+A with Outright L/A.
