AUGUSTA — The Viles Arboretum recently announced it has taken on a new collections manager – outreach specialist Kyra Danielowski.
Danielowski comes to the Arboretum for the summer of 2018 with great energy and experience to move a significant component of the organization’s many projects forward in a big way, Arboretum officials said in news release.

Supported through grants from Kennebec Savings Bank, Elsie Viles and the Betterment Foundation, Danielowski’s focus will be to advance public access and improving all aspects of the visitor experience.
“Hiring Kyra is another very significant step forward in the overall rebirth of this wonderful resource everyone knows as the Arboretum,” commentd Mark DesMeules, executive director. “She has the focus and skills we need to build greater public use and appreciation through significant attention to our botanical collections, access enhancement and interpretive and educational signage.”
Danielowski comes to the arboretum from Wisconsin, where she is a senior at the University of Wisconsin – Stout, studying environmental science with a concentration in plant science and minoring in chemistry and sustainability.
“I am honored to work at Viles because I will have the opportunity to connect the community with nature. I am also looking forward to building my leadership skills, broadening my knowledge of New England taxonomy and ecological management,” she said.
The Viles Arboretum is centrally located in Augusta on 224 acres of fields, forests and wetlands; it boasts botanical collections from around the world. There is an ever-changing selection of inspirational exhibits, educational and practical programs for the general public and for schools. We focus on interactive, creative and hands-on teaching with a concentration on botany and natural history. The goal is to unlock everyone’s natural ability to understand the nature of our world through their own eyes and by using their own intellect.
