‘Great American Songbook’ will be performed May 19

LEWISTON — The jazzy blues sounds of George Gershwin and Cole Porter will echo through the Gendron Franco Center’s performance hall 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, and 3 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Gendron Franco Center, 46 Cedar St., when the Maine Music Society Chorale presents “Favorites from the Great American Songbook.”

The songs, written for musical theater and movies between the 1920’s and 1950’s, are characterized by witty lyrics and surprising rhymes. The performance includes “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” and “Just One of Those Things” by Cole Porter and ” ‘S Wonderful,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me,” and “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off” by George Gershwin.
