LEWISTON — Sheryl Whitmore of Auburn recently was named to the Maine Music Society board of directors.
Whitmore, of Auburn, is expected to bring a multitude of diverse experiences to help the board meet its goals, the organization said in a news release.
Now retired, Whitmore earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Maine and interned with Sen. Edmund Muskie in his Lewiston office. She has served on the Lisbon Redevelopment Board and as Total Quality Management representative to Lewiston city government.
Continuing her education in library information and computers, she received a state librarian in charge certificate and served as the library director for Lisbon for seven years and as reference librarian for the Lewiston Public Library for 12 years.
She has also worked as a substitute teacher, a manufacturing assistant at Thos Moser, and is a former organist/choir director for the Minot Methodist Church.
Whitmore has volunteered extensively, including serving as chairwoman of the Maine Library Association membership committee, as a member of the Poland Spring Preservation Society and in choirs > and various positions as a lay person for the Unitarian Universalist, Methodist and St. Michael’s churches.
She is an active MMS chorale member, an Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice volunteer visitor and hospice choir member, and belongs to the Women Giving Back organization.
Her hobbies include singing, creating quilts, kayaking, hiking, biking and reading.
Whitemore was born in Blue Hill and has been a Mainer all her life. She and Jonathan, her husband of 51 years, have two sons and five grandchildren.
