Apr. 292018

GREENE — Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District will hold a pond workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at the Schott Property, 303 South River Road.
The workshop will cover topics such as pond design, constructions, maintenance, location, sizing, troubleshooting, best management practices, pond chemistry, pond and riparian habitat features and fish stocking.

Space is limited; register with the Androscoggin Valley SWCD office by May 4
After the classroom portion, participants will hike to a pond on the property. They should come prepared with proper clothing and footwear for the season. If you are not able to traverse the uneven land of the property, attending only the classroom portion of this workshop is an alternative. There will be light refreshments mid-morning.
The workshop counts for full re-certification in Erosion and Sediment Control by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
Presenters will be Candi Gilpatric, USDA agricultural engineer, and Joseph Dembeck, Somerset County Soil and Water Conservation District executive director, who will share their years of combined knowledge of pond systems.
