EdCamp Western Maine returns to Farmington for third year

FARMINGTON – On Feb. 4, Mt. Blue Campus will host the third annual EdCamp Western Maine educator unconference. This professional development opportunity is offered to empower educators of all kinds to share their vision for high quality teaching and learning. EdCampWME is based around a simple idea: Let teachers come together and talk and share. The benefits that come from these events often go beyond the day itself. Relationships, lesson ideas, book recommendations, technology resources, you name it.

This “unconference” is organized by a team that includes educators from the UMF College of Education faculty, and teachers from the Mt. Blue, Mountain Valley, Saint Dominic Academy and Wells high schools.

One new addition to EdCampWME 2017 is the organizing team’s decision to use lunch as a fundraising opportunity for students at the host school. Mt. Blue Campus Class of 2018 will be selling a $5 soup and sandwich lunch to raise funds for the class. Additionally, the unconference will also be offering childcare services by donation. Contact hours are available for educators pursuing recertification.

Last year, attendance exceeded 2014’s eighty participants, with over 100 teachers, administrators, policymakers and students travelling from all corners of the state of Maine. This year, organizers expect even larger numbers.

EdCampWME is free, open to the public and will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Mt. Blue High School, in Farmington, Saturday, Feb. 4 (Feb. 5 snow date.) For more information or to register, visit EdCampWME.org.
