Lewiston seeks students for Youth Advisory Council

Apr. 222018

LEWISTON — The city is seeking members for the 2018-19 Lewiston Youth Advisory Council year of service beginning in July
New this year, applications can now be submitted online at www.lewistonmaine.gov/youthapply. The deadline for application submission is May 16

Hard copies are available at the Lewiston City Administrator’s Office, 27 Pine St.
To be considered for membership on the LYAC, the applicant must be a grades 9-12 student at either Lewiston High School or St. Dominic Academy or a Lewiston resident at the time of application. Lewiston home-schooled students are also welcome to apply for membership; current members may also reapply.
First established by the Lewiston City Council in October of 2001 and garnering local, state and national recognition, LYAC enables students to work toward goals to empower youth community-wide, as well as undertake service projects enhancing the community. The youth council also serves as a liaison between the youth of the community and the city. The current group is surveying 12th-, 8th- and 4th-grade students for their perspectives on Lewiston and the city’s role in their future.
The committee will make its selection of up to 15 members by the last Friday in June, and selected youth will be subsequently notified and then officially appointed during a July Lewiston City Council meeting.
