LEWISTON — The Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce has completed acquisition of the Lewiston Auburn Economic Growth Council to add economic development to the chamber’s services, the organization announced.
The privately funded services support regional business retention and promote economic development, it said in a news reelase.
As a consequence, the chamber’s LA Metro Marketplace will replace the LAEGC’s 22-year production of the Maine B2B Trade Show, and incorporates the best of the former B2B business to business networking and adds three new components: time for high school students to engage with our business community; a job fair and the launch of an image campaign to promote the LA region as a place to work, live and play.
This new event will be held Thursday, June 7, at the Bates Mill complex. Registration is open for businesses and organizations to participate at www.LAMetroChamber.com.
Businesses and organizations are sponsoring and participating to:
* Promote the image of the L-A community to local high school students. From 9:30 to 11 a.m., students will have exclusive entry to the Marketplace to interact with 150 businesses and organizations showcasing the quality career choices available in the region. Students will leave believing more deeply in the LA community. The Lewiston High School’s Regional Technical Center’s Marketing Class is working with the Chamber to design this portion of the day and help each exhibitor create their student experience.
* Develop the local WORKFORCE. The Chamber’s Annual Job Fair is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If a business or organization is not hiring, they can take that time to enjoy lunch, entertainment or one of several professional development seminars.
* Do business to business networking networking and business to consumer sales. From 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., the Marketplace will be opened to the public.
* Celebrated at Business After Hours from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to toast the beginning of a new direction in the LA Metro Area.
“We can make it here if we all believe in the potential of our region to lead Maine’s future,” the chamber said. The Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, 415 Lisbon St., serves Lewiston, Auburn and the surrounding communities.
Beckie Conrad, chamber president saidm, “The LA Metro Marketplace is the chamber’s new premiere annual event. The Marketplace will activate the chamber membership’s collective energy and aspirations to promote the LA region as a place to work, live and play by engaging local high school students, attracting young entrepreneurs, and promoting our new focus on cultural and sports tourism.
Participating LA Metro Marketplace businesses and organizations will be clustered in one of seven pavilions: The Marketplace of Ideas (education); The Marketplace of Prosperity (financial and lifestyle services); Discover LA Maine (arts, culture, sports, recreation and hospitality); the Marketplace of Makers (manufacturing and artisans); The Marketplace of Wellbeing (health and wellness); The Marketplace of Possibility (nonprofits and creative problem solvers); and the Marketplace (municipalities and retail sales).
“Combined, the curated event will create a visual experience of the LA community that will leave attendees saying, ‘I want to live, work or play in the LA Metro area,'” Conrad said.
