Family contra dance to be held in Otisfield April 28

OTISFIELD — A family-friendly community contra dance will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Otisfield Community Hall, 292 Oxford Road.
Partners and skill are not required, as a caller will walk people through each dance.

A contra dance is a folk dance made up of long lines of couples. Its origins are from 17th century English, Scottish and French folk-dance traditions.
The most popular form of dancing in 18th century America, today it is most prevalent in New England and the Maritime Provinces of Canada.
Music will be provided by Franco-American fiddler Don Roy and wife, Cindy, accompanied by Elsie and Rossby Arnott; Maggie Robinson will be calling.
Bring shoes for dancing; dirt from street shoes will make the floor slippery. Tap water will be provided. This is a family-friendly event, and admission is by donation.
