Turner Public Library to hold gardening seminar April 14

​TURNER — Turner Public Library will conduct its seventh annual Spring Gardening Seminar from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 14, in the Community Room of the Leavitt Institute Building (same location as the library), 11 Turner Center Road.

There will be complimentary coffee and Ricker Hill donuts, along with generous door prizes awarded during the break between presentations.
​Speakers this year are local gardening favorites Wes Clark and John Zocchi. Clark owns and operates Clark’s Farm, with greenhouse sales on Route 4. Numerous Turner business, as well as the town office, are graced by plantings created by Clark’s Farms. He will present on “Annual Flowers for Pots and Baskets: Keep Them Thriving.” He will offer tips on plants, soils, containers, and care for best results throughout the summer.
​John Zocchi is a semi-retired architect who gardens adventurously at his North Turner home. His presentation — “Life in The Underground: Onions, Garlic, Leeks, Shallots” — will focus on six closely-related garden vegetables, how they grow, how to cultivate them, and how to store them for winter. It will concentrate primarily on onions and garlic. Differences and similarities in the methods required for raising each of the plants will be shown, with slides of Zocchi’s own garden. Local proven types and varieties will be recommended.
