PORTLAND — Public sessions are planned March 27 and 28 in Portland and Lewiston on the potentional of expanding rail passenger service to the Lewiston-Auburn area.
The cities of Lewiston and Auburn, in conjunction with the Maine Department of Transportation and the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority, are hosting a public open house on Wednesday, March 28, in Lewiston, as well as a public forum in Portland Tuesday, March 27.
Organizers are looking for input from residents of the cities, as well as those who live outside of the Lewiston-Auburn area, to determine potential for use. The purpose of the public meetings is to hear from students, businesses and residents who might consider taking the train from Lewiston or Auburn, they said.
The Portland workshiop is 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Portland City Hall, Room 24. Those attending may come any time in the two-hour span. Snow date is April 4.

The project team and advisory committee want to know who would use the train — they are looking for numbers and would like to hear especially from employers whose employees would use the train and businesses that attract visitors. They also would like to hear for what purpose people would use the train, for example work, shopping, medical appointments. And they want to know how often people would use it.
