BREWER — A Farmington woman was among those honored at the Northern and Eastern Maine Chapter of the American Red Cross Annual Real Heroes Breakfast on March 21.
Sarah Reynolds, who works at Cascade Brook School in Farmintong, was named the Lifesaver Hero Award Winner.
Reynolds was in a restroom on the first teacher workshop day of the year last year when she heard a woman calling out in distress. She crawled under the stall, dragged the woman out and made sure 911 was notified, the AED was on hand and that a fellow teacher who knows CPR was located. Her quick thinking and actions saved a colleague’s life, according to the Red Cross.
“It really was a life-changing moment for me,” Reynolds said. “I feel like I played such a small role in that moment. Just watching the true heroes perform CPR … and save her life was an amazing thing to witness. I really thought she was gone, and it’s a miracle now that she’s here.”
“These Real Heroes are ordinary people who perform extraordinary acts in service to others,” said Chapter Executive Director Caroline King. “Our communities are lucky to have them, and we salute them for their acts of courage, kindness and unselfish character. That spirit of humanitarianism is what drives them and what drives the humanitarian mission of the American Red Cross.”
Others who won the Northern and Eastern Maine Honores included Dexter Police Department officer Kenneth Spaulding, Community Hero Award; Sienna Probert of Hampden and Hampden Academy, Biomedical Services Award; Suzanne Moreshead of Carmel, Volunteer Hero Award; Emera Maine, Community Impact Award.
