Lewiston area students to attend Financial Fitness Fair March 28

LEWISTON — Students from area high schools will attend the annual Financial Fitness Fair Wednesday, March 28, sponsored by area credit unions. The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave.
The half-day event is similar to the game of Life — where participants are given a career and monthly income and then have to visit booths associated with expenses that the average adult is faced with each month.

Costs such as transportation, housing, clothing, food, student loans and several other everyday expenses are filled in on a monthly budget form by each student. At the end of the event, the goal is for students to have a monthly budget that does not exceed monthly income.
Founded in 2004, Maine credit unions introduced the concept in youth financial education and fairs are held throughout the state by area credit unions. It costs nothing for a school to host a fair. The 2016/17 school year was the busiest ever, with 40 fairs taking place and a total of 7,617 students participating.
The 2018 Financial Fitness Fair in Lewiston is put on by the Norm Nolette Chapter of Credit Unions, which exists to support the cooperative spirit among area credit unions through community involvement, networking, and educational trainings. The Chapter is made up of the following Credit Unions: Central Maine Federal Credit Union, Community Credit Union, Dirigo Federal Credit Union, Great Falls Federal Credit Union, Lewiston Municipal Federal Credit Union, Maine Family Federal Credit Union, Monmouth Credit Union, Otis Federal Credit Union, Oxford Federal Credit Union, and Sabattus Credit Union.
