NORWAY — Two new support groups have been added to the April calendar of the Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine. Activites coming up range from support groups, to exercise to art.
The center is in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building, 199 Main St. Stephens Memorial Hospital has added two weekly support groups, which will be led by Kayla Capponi, MSW social worker navigator.
At 10 a.m. on Mondays, there will be a group for anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer, past or present.
At 10 a.m. Fridays, the Cancer Caregiver Support Group will meet. Contact Capponi at 207-744-7174 for more information on either group. This group offers a safe place to meet and develop a mutual support system plus learn positive ways to take care of oneself. This groups will meet in the Navigation Office at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
All programs offered by the Center are free to anyone affected by cancer, survivors and caregivers. New visitors may stop by for information and to join in activities. In case of inclement weather, when School Administrative District 17, the Oxford Hills School District, cancels classes, activities sponsored by the center are canceled as well.
Drop in hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Thursday and Friday, when volunteers are available to provide comfort items such as port protectors, wigs, hats, pillows or look for resources. They have many pamphlets and a lending library.
The center is also a place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, chat with a volunteer or take time for yourself by participating in scheduled activities. Activities such as coloring, knitting or games are available at all times.

Men’s Rally Group, 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 19. Vance Jordan and Nel Bernard invite men who have recently been recently diagnosed with cancer, in treatment or are survivors, to connect with other men who are affected. Bernard will also offer a chair massage to those interested.
Yoga Warriors, Wednesdays, 2 to 4 p.m. April 4, 11, 18 and 25, Posabilities, 15 Tannery St. Fee gentle yoga class to support healthy living for individuals facing the challenges of cancer. Preregistration is encouraged. Call or register day of class by arriving 15 minutes early.
Banding Together To Restore, 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays, April 5, 12, 19 and 26, at Richard Bader Physical Therapy, 176 Main St. The program, lead by Lori Britting, is focused on regaining motion and strength through guided instruction using stretching and colored Therabands. Preregistration is encouraged. Call or register day of class by arriving 15 minutes early.
Yoga for Wellness, 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays. Includes breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing.
Self Reiki 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, Charlotte Labelle will demonstrate how Reiki helps to alleviate stress and promote relaxation.
Self Reflexology, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, Karen Tibbetts will demonstrate how applying pressure to reflex points may help improve circulation and reduce body stress.
Stampin’ Up, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 4. A fun and easy craft, with materials and instruction provided to make a variety of cards.
Beginning Steps to Paint with Watercolors, 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, April 19, Suzanne Hardy will teach the beginning steps to paint with watercolors. Learn what materials are needed and practice basic techniques. Call to register, because of class size limit.
Beading Project, 2 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, at Lively Accents, 310 Main St.
